Dock Leveler Repair: questions
Can a dock leveler be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, when the damage is limited to components such as a lip cylinder, hose, control, or hold-down and the deck, frame, and pit are sound. A cracked deck, a shifted frame, or a discontinued model with no compatible parts pushes the assessment toward replacement. The provider decides this on site.
What is the difference between a dock leveler and a dock plate?
A leveler is installed in a pit or on the dock face and raises and lowers under power or spring assistance. A dock plate or dock board is portable equipment placed across the gap by hand or by forklift. OSHA's dockboard rule covers capacity, securing, and vehicle-movement safeguards for portable equipment. If a board is bent or its rating is unknown, that is an inspection and replacement question, not a repair this website can arrange.
The leveler is drifting while loaded. Can I keep using it until someone comes out?
This website cannot tell you that any moving or drifting leveler is safe. Follow your facility's procedures, keep people and equipment off the deck, and take the position out of use until qualified personnel assess it. Describe the drifting to the provider when you call so they understand the priority.
Do I need to know the leveler capacity or model before calling?
